Wide Range/Thinline Humbucker Replacement Pickups & Reissue Upgrades
Custom Upgrades & Replacement Wide Range / Tele / Thinline Humbuckers for modern & reissue Fender® Guitars
One of my favourite pickups, I spent 18mths developing, testing & refining these replica/reproducion pickups, having all the final parts custom made to my own specifications - Nothing 'off-the-shelf'. Here you have it, a new, true spec replacement for the modern Fender® Seth Lover Wide Range/Thinline Tele Custom & Deluxe Humbucker reissues.
Whereas the original Wide Range/Thinline Humbucker pickups had threaded CuNiFe magnets, the modern reissues are simply a standard humbucker design with under coil bar magnet and pole screws dressed to look like a vintage Wide Range Pickups. With the right capacitors & potentiometers, they’re not a bad pickup at all, a good, warm take on the traditional humbucker sound – they just don’t have the clarity, definition, dynamics & sparkle of the original Wide Range/Thinline Tele Humbuckers. My custom, handwound versions are true to the original design with custom manufactured, adjustable threaded rod magnets, correct 42AWG coil, larger internal bobbins and internal ferrous reflector plate.
I can also upgrade your Fender® reissue pickups if you want the vintage sound and keep the Fender® logo chrome cover.
I wanted to make replacement Wide Range Humbuckers as close to the original '70s design as possible. It took a long time and much effort & cost having custom parts manufactured but I think its worth it.
I’ve created two varieties – a full sized version intended to be a direct drop-in replacement for the current Wide Range/Thinline Tele Humbucker reissues and a slightly scaled down version to fit standard Gibson/PAF Humbucker size. You can find more details & audio/video demos under the tabs below.
Handwound in my workshop here in Manchester, UK.

Classic Wide Range / Tele & Thinline Humbuckers
Classic '71 WRHB
Magnets Individual Threaded Alnico 2, Alnico 5 or CuNiFe Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Simple Three-Way or Modern 4-Way Bridge Output 10.7k Neck Output 9.8k The vintage Wide Range Humbucker sound in a Direct Drop-in Replacement
A true replacement for the modern Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker reissue pickups
Classic fat 'Doubled Up' single coil sounds - Great clarity and string definition with a bright warmth. Individual threaded pole magnets allow you to dial in each string.
A warmer mid-range than standard single coils and with a higher output, they're great for breaking up an amp. With a great fat bridge sounding akin to a "doubled-up" Tele and a neck with a warm, sweet brightness. Custom-made nickel-silver baseplate, internal ferrous reflector plate, large size handmade bobbins with medium scatterwound coils of the correct size 42AWG - The Creamery Classic '71 Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker is a direct replacement for those modern reissues.
Indvidual Threaded Alnico or original Spec CuNiFe Magnets
Choose from stronger, brighter, more attacking sounding Alnico 5 - Slightly warmer, sweeter sounding Alnico 2 or my custom manufactured CuNiFe Magnets which are very similar to Alnico 2 but more vintage correct to the original WRHB design. CuNiFe does carry a higher price as they just cost more for me to have them custom manufactured but after being asked on a weekly basis for the past number of years, I finally gave in and had them manufactured.
Calibrated/Balanced Output & Better Pole spacing for Bridge & Neck position
Unlike the originals & reissues, I’ve made the Classic ’71 Wide Range Humbuckers with 53mm Bridge pole spacing & 50mm pole spacing for better string definition in the neck position so the threaded magnets actually line up with the strings. It means I've had to custom manufacture separate covers for the bridge & neck position to reflect the pole spacing but I do think its worth it. To my knowledge, I'm the only one doing this at the moment - Although the original Wide Range Humbuckers are one of my favourite vintage pickups, I've always been disappointed that the neck pole spacing was the same as the bridge despite the strings having a naturally narrower spacing here
I’ve also lowered the neck output a little to give a calibrated set with much better volume balance between bridge & neck pickup as you switch through the positions, with less 'boom' at the neck.
I don't use 'off the shelf' parts for my Wide Range Humbuckers, all my parts are custom manufactured to my own specifications and I also don't use standard Gibson/Humbucker sized bobbins under the cover and thinner 43AWG wire to achieve the desired output reading. I make my own full-size bobbins, handwound with thicker 42AWG coil wire for that classic sparkle and clear, defined Wide Range sound - Click on the video icons above to see/hear them in action.
PLEASE NOTE: These pickups are a direct drop-in replacement to fit the modern reissue & original Wide Range Humbuckers.
Available with Logo or without in standard Fender Chrome, Nickel or Raw Nickel.

A true replacement for the modern Wide Range / Starcaster Bass reissue pickups
Classic Tele / Starcaster Bass sounds. Individual threaded pole magnets allow you to dial in each string.
I spent a good while working on these trying to get the design just right, balancing the original with a modern voice - eventually coming up with two options, a brighter, crisper, punchier version and one with more of the original fat, dark mid-range thump. Another direct drop-in replacement for the modern Starcaster Bass / Tele Bass Wide Range Humbucker reissues.
Based on the classic '70s Fender Bass Design, eight individual threaded rod magnets ( four hidden ) help give a great single coil option when split.
Unlike the originals & reissues, I’ve made the Classic ’71 Wide Range Humbuckers for Starcaster® with a narrower 50mm pole spacing for better string definition in the neck position so the threaded magnets actually line up under the strings. It means I've had to custom manufacture separate covers for the bridge & neck position to reflect the pole spacing but I do think its worth it. To my knowledge, I'm the only one doing this at the moment - Although the original Wide Range Humbuckers are one of my favourite vintage pickups, I've always been disappointed that the neck pole spacing was the same as the bridge despite the strings having a naturally narrower spacing here.
Custom designed Starcaster® Replacement Wide Range Humbuckers
I prototyped a few different versions in my own Starcaster® reissue I bought and found that a slightly lower output spec worked best in the semi-hollow body, with outputs of around 9.6k for the bridge and 8.7k for the neck - a good calibrated set with much better volume balance between bridge & neck pickup as you switch through the positions - with less 'boom' at the neck. You can still fit my other Wide Range Humbuckers as they're all direct drop-in replacements - I just designed the Starcaster set specifically for a lower output, brighter, woodier sound.
If you'd like my Classic '71 pickup with the vintage slightly higher output, you can find it here.
I don't use 'off the shelf' parts for my Wide Range Humbuckers, all my parts are custom manufactured to my own specifications and I also don't use standard Gibson/Humbucker sized bobbins under the cover and thinner 43AWG wire to achieve the desired output reading. I make my own full-size bobbins, handwound with thicker 42AWG coil wire for that classic sparkle and clear, defined Wide Range sound.
PLEASE NOTE: These pickups are a direct drop-in replacement to fit the modern reissue & original Starcaster® Wide Range Humbuckers.
Available with Logo or without in standard Fender Chrome, Nickel or Raw Nickel.
Modern '71 Wide Range/Thinline Tele Humbucker
Magnets Individual Threaded Alnico 5 Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Simple Three-Way or Modern 4-Way Bridge Output 10.7k Neck Output 9.8k A great modern, crunchy Wide Range pickup
A true replacement for Fender Wide Range Humbucker reissue pickups
A true modern replacement for those Fender® Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker reissues. Classic fat single coil sounds - Great clarity and string definition with a brighter warmth than my Classic '71 pickups.
Individual threaded pole magnets allow you to dial in each string and match the radius of your neck, these modern versions of the Wide Range humbucker give a more attacking, punchier sound but still with a warmer mid-range than standard single coils with more clarity and spank than a standard humbucker. They're great for breaking up an amp or played just on the edge of break-up for a great fat bridge sounding akin to a "doubled-up" Tele and a neck with a bright sweetness still with the warmth of an overwound pickup.
I make these without the internal reflector plate to help keep more brightness with coils handwound around full-size Wide Range Humbucker bobbins - The Creamery Modern Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker is a direct replacement for those modern muddy reissues with more edge than my vintage replacements.
I make these with strong Alnico 5 threaded magnets for clarity, definition, ounch and attack.
A more modern, punchier take on my Classic '71 Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker - A great crunchy pickup

Still with the classic fat single coil sounds - Great clarity and string definition with a bright warmth - the overwound nature of the coils gives the pickup more power to push an amp.

Custom '13 for Wide Range
Magnets 3 types of Custom Made Magnets. Alnico 2 or 5 Half Bar & Alnico 5 Threaded Rods Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Simple Three-Way or Modern 4-Way Bridge Output 8.4k Neck Output 7.4k Custom Designed with Bernard Sumner of Joy Division / New Order
Classic PAF on the higher G, B & e strings, much more clarity & string definition under the E, A & D
Three types of custom magnets for crunchy, crisp, clear & defined lower strings - sweeter, creamier, milkier higher strings for a richer sound. Custom designed with Bernard Sumner of Joy Division / New Order.
We worked on the design of this pickup together when he wanted something edgier from the Gibson LP Jnr Double Cutaway he picked up. He has a number of vintage guitars (and old Vox amps) but wanted something different for the new live dates and recording. We spent time playing his old original Gibson ES 330 that just sounded perfect, just a really sweet yet gritty sound that really snarled when pushed. It has Dogear P90s but they just had something more than the standard P90 sound but the two issues he had where, it had just been too precious to take out on tour for a number of years and with it having single coil P90s, it hummed, both live and in the studio with all the synths & equipment. In comparison, his Gibson SG and the early 90s LP Jnr he picked up just sounded a little sterile in comparison.
Clearer, more defined E, A & D strings - Creamier, Warmer G, B & E strings
So the task was not to recreate the sound of the ES 330 but take its characteristics and make a similar Dogear P90 size pickup to fit the new LP Jnr that kept the colour and edge to the sound but with clearer, more defined and ‘punkier' lower E, A & D strings whilst somehow being warmer, creamier & milkier on the higher G, B & E strings. So rather than try and make some kind of hum-cancelling P90 we decided to just start again from scratch and make a new design of pickup to balance these two ideas, clearer, more defined & crunchier E, A & D strings whilst somehow being able to roll off the treble slightly on the higher G, B & E strings for less of a single coil sound and more towards the richer, fuller humbucker sound. To get the crisper, crunchier lower notes in a humbucker often means less coil and a lower output which can give the higher strings more treble - the task was to reconcile these two ideas, clear, crunchier lower strings with warmer highs with a higher output to push the amp a little more.
This is where the unique design came about after a few different prototypes - Individual sets of custom made & sized threaded rod magnets of opposing polarity and different strengths underneath the lower E, A & D strings with a double pole humbucker design underneath the G, B & E strings, again with custom made magnets hidden away underneath the offset coils for these strings. Outputwise, we wanted it to really push his naturally brighter vintage VOX AC30 amps for a really attacking, edgier sound.
Road Testing on Tour
He took the final prototype out on tour and chose to showcase the new design live onstage as they played their first new material in years at the Lollapalooza festival (I was streaming it live)
After the gigs, and with the pickup performing well onstage he asked me to make a bridge & neck humbucker sized set to the same spec for his ’62 SG These are the same ones now available in the larger Fender Wide Range Humbucker size.
He took these back out on the road and gave them a good road test on the short US tour later that month and his final review was
Back home now and gave the pickups a good trial on tour. Verdict fantastic! Improved both my guitars. The humbuckers have bags of tone and character! The old Gibson ones sound cold and neutral in comparison. Totally pleased. You’ve sure done something right and well impressed the band, me and the crew! I’ve been bigging you up to everyone!"
A great replacement humbucker for the modern reissue Fender Wide Range Humbuckers if you're looking for a fatter, grittier, dirtier, crunchier alternative sound.
Magnet Options
The magnets under the lower E, A & D strings are custom sized, custom made threaded Alnico 5 whereas the lower G, B & E strings can have either Alnico 2 or the stronger Alnico 5 - Alnico 2, being a little weaker 'holds' the strings a little less, allowing them to vibrate a little more, adding a little more warmth to the overall sound whereas Alnico 5, being that bit stronger, 'holds' the strings a little more for a little brighter attack & focus.
PLEASE NOTE: These pickups are a direct drop-in replacement to fit the modern Wide Range / Humbuckers and the output can also be custom to your requirements.

Fender WRHB Reissue Upgrades
Fender Wide Range/Thinline Tele Upgrades
The modern Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker Reissues are simply standard Humbucker sized coils encased in wax to fit the larger Wide Range Cover. As with standard Humbuckers they feature a bar magnet underneath, the difference being the use of threaded slugs to mimic the threaded magnets of the original late '60s-70s pickups. Having a bar magnet underneath the slugs means these pickups will have a different voice to the clarity, definition and fat brighter tone associated with the original, vintage versions.
If you'd like to upgrade these reissues you have in your guitar then now you can:
OPTION ONE:
I'll carefully replace the bar magnet and slugs, replacing them with a full set of Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 threaded magnets as found in my humbucker sized WR Humbuckers above. While not recreating the tone of the originals, this modification will open up the sound, giving more clarity, bloom, sparkle and better string definition and a bright warmth with tighter bass response. A great upgrade if you're looking to breathe some life into your pickups for more of a "doubled-up" single coil tone. I can also recommend potentimeter sizes & capacitors to work with, my personal. Once the work is done the pickup will be wax-potted if requested. This option is non-destructive, the original set-up can be re-instated at a later date should you require it
£45 per Pickup / £80 per Set
OPTION TWO:
Here I take your exiting pickup, remove the existing coils, magnet & slugs and replace them with two full size handwound coils (see pic) wrapped around my handmade bobbins with either Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 threaded magnets plus the custom handmade reflector plate used in the original design. Essentially a true Wide Range Humbucker pickup with the great warmth and tone similar to that of the original. I wind the coils to a slight variation on the original spec to account for the modern version of the threaded magnets. I wind the bridge coils to the same output as the original, reducing the output of the neck slightly for better calibration of volume & tone between pickups.
These will then be a truer replacement for the modern Fender Wide Range / Thinline Humbucker replacements. Classic fat 'doubled up' single coil sounds - Great clarity and string definition with a bright warmth. The Individual threaded pole magnets allow you to dial in each string. A warmer mid-range than standard single coils and with a higher output, they're great for breaking up an amp. With a great fat bridge tone sounding akin to a "doubled-up" Tele and a neck with a warm, sweet brightness.
Essentially a whole new pickup internally, I just use your existing baseplate and Fender logo cover.
£92 per Pickup / £170 per Set
In both cases the pickup will look the same with original Fender® logo cover & discounts are available for sets of pickups.
Read my blog post which runs through the Option Three Wide Range Humbucker Reissue Upgrade here
Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 Threaded Magnets
Sorry, but I dont offer my custom made CuNiFe magnets for upgrading Modern Fender Reissue WRHBs - I've had a limited number manufactured and need these to fulfill orders of my own Classic '71 Wide Range Humbuckers. Really sorry about this. If they prove popular I will have more manufactured.
Choose from stronger, brighter, more attacking sounding Alnico 5 or the slightly warmer, rounder, sweeter sounding Alnico 2.
PLEASE NOTE: I'm unable to upgrade Option ONE with 4-way wire for coil-splits etc. The plastic bobbins have tiny lugs attacked to them on the underside where the coil wire is soldered to the hookup wire. The danger in replacing this wire with 4 way is that the coil can be easily damaged as the plastic surrounding the tiny lugs tends to melt and break the coil wire, rendering the pickup dead. I have successfully performed this wire switch in the past but its just a risk I don't like to take. Option THREE can have 4-way wire as I use my own larger, custom made bobbins.
With Upgrades, I let you know when I'm ready to work on them so you can send them over just before, that way you're not left without a working guitar for too long.

How I Make Replica Wide Range Humbucker
Original Threaded Rod/Pole Magnets
Like the original, the pickup has threaded adjustable magnets just like the original. CuNiFe is prohibitively expensive now so these new Wide Range/Thinline humbucker style pickups use FeCrCo which is very similar to Alnico but with more stable magnetic properties, threaded to enable adjustment of the poles. The individual magnets and custom scatterwound coils give great clarity and string definition, with a ‘fat’ brightness unique to this design of pickup. The adjustable pole magnets allow you to emphasise certain strings.
As the FeCrCo threaded magnets could be more aligned with Alnico 5 in terms of 'colouring the sound' I'm offering two options on the direct drop-in replacements. One version with 12 threaded poles which keeps the brighter attack and another version with six adjustable threaded poles and six corresponding Alnico 2 rod magnets to give a slightly warmer sound.
Calibrated Outputs
Whereas the original Seth Lover designed Wide Range/Thinline Humbuckers had roughly the same output in both bridge & neck, I’ve voiced these new designs with differing outputs for better volume balance through the positions. The bridge has an output of around 10.4-10.7k depending on version with the neck slightly lower at around 9.6-9.8k. Of course, if you’d like to keep output to the original specs, I can happily custom wind a set for you.
For the standard humbucker sized version I tap & thread my classic humbucker bobbins & baseplate to create the pickup whilst crafting the reflector plate by hand. With the full-sized Wide Range/Thinline Humbucker replacements the full-size bobbins, ferrous reflector plate and nickel silver baseplate are all made by hand here in my workshop.
So if you’ve a modern day Telecaster Thinline, Custom or Deluxe then you can purchase a direct Wide Range/Thinline Humbucker replacement with dynamics true to the original pickup.
If you’d simply like a true Wide Range/Thinline Humbucker style pickup for your guitar to replace a standard humbucker, then now you can.
You can read my blog piece about them here.
How I make Them
With the Wide Range Pickups I spent a good 18mths working on designs and prototypes before deciding on the final specifications. I tried a number of materials with different thickness baseplates and internal bobbin construction before finalising the design. A lot of work went into these pickups.
I use a thinner, custom manufactured nickel silver baseplate that I handwork to create the mounting lugs. The covers have been custom manufactured with slightly rounder corners as I'm not a fan of the more box-like versions of the modern reissues. They're made again from a thinner nickel silver to stop more of the higher frequencies from being rolled off which can happen with thicker metal.
I tried a number of different internal bobbin options and material to get what I thought was the best sound, finally deciding on a strong yet flexible 3D printed design as the best for what I wanted to achieve. Ideally I’d like to use the old Burns Tri-Sonic method of ‘air’ coils, coils without a bobbin or structure, just pure coil wrapped up with a flexible tape and pushed/pressed around the magnets/bushings. I just find this gives the richest sound rather than a uniform (and better looking) coil as the chaos of coil wire directions produce a richer harmonic sound which is what I wanted for the Wide Range Humbucker but I have to balance this with customer expectations of the replica/reproduction of a classic design that many know and love (myself included.) With this in mind, the compromise I came up with was the use the custom made 3D printed bobbins that I can press, twist and manipulate a little immediately after the necessary wax potting to alter further away from the handwound/scatterwound pattern. I then fit all the components together to make the final pickup and wax-pot again. The downside to this method is that they can look ugly, a little malformed and not uniform in the way a standard humbucker bobbin looks if you slip off the cover but I do think the pickups sound better for it, its just one of the decisions I took when making the final prototype.
I use white coloured versions as the originals had a very thin clear/whiteish bobbins that again wouldn’t have won any prizes for aesthetics but they were always meant to be covered pickups. I do make coverless versions of my Wide Ranges with hand-cut fibrework plates over the bobbins as of course, atheistically the coils need to look good for a coverless pickup.

Creamery Wide Range / Tele Humbucker Reviews
Thanks for the great feedback
Its great when I get positive feedback from customers, and good reviews & word-of-mouth really help the custom shop maker so with this in mind, I've created this page of reviews.
All the comments below were either emailed to me or posted to my Twitter or Facebook pages.
Have a read through what others are saying about my Wide Range Humbuckers and get in touch if you'd like me to custom make some pickups for you. I don't have pickups all boxed up ready to send out, each order is custom made which means I can modify the specifications to suit you, your playing and your guitarYou can read the Total Guitar 5 Star/Best Buy review of my Creamery Wide Range Tele Humbucker Pickups here
Sounds AMAZING, its a great guitar and one of the best things about it is your pickups. So clear!
Nice job again Jaime!
I know it's been awhile, but I just wanted you to know. I finished putting my Tele from last year together (last summer it got finished) and these are seriously the NICEST pickups I've ever played. I get compliments on the look AND the sound of them all the time.
I put a 5-way rotary for the WRHB in (mod from guitarelectronics.com) to get 5 different sounds out of the (4-conductor) WRHB and it is just amazing. Get some good strat-y tones out of the split coils too! Thanks again man!
I have a WR Baby 71 neck in a tele, love it.
Installed and amazing. You are a wizard my friend. Sounds exactly as requested!
Just a quick message to say thanks and that I really like the Wide Range Humbuckers you made for my starcaster reissue. They simply sound amazing. Thanks again!
In a word, sound brilliant!!!
I just wanted to say that the pickups sound great. Don't change anything about your specs. They are perfect! Well-balanced and full sounding, with nice round tones on the top end. Good string separation even in the neck position. And there's plenty of surfy, sparkling definition in the bridge when i want it. (I play through a Fender DR and a Fender Blues DeVille.)
Just wanted to let you know how great they sound.
I recently purchased a set of Baby ’71 WRHBs and put them in my LP styled guitar. They are working great and I really love the tones - especially with them in split coil mode as I’m really a single coil guy at heart.
I received the PU this week and it's great! It's exactly what I was looking for and totally balances with my JM2 in the neck.So thank you!
I've just tested your pickups in my mustang now and...they're marvellous !!! Special mention to the neck pickup which sounds amazing to me ! Congratulations !
The pickups sound amazing, really crisp, clear and powerful.
The pick-ups sound great! I especially like the bridge humbucker tone and they look awesome in the 72 tele I'm looking forward to the next rehearsal with the guys and our next gig! I'm sure people are going to be asking about the new sound!
In a word ... Absolutely fucking brilliant Mate. Balance and tone that moves me ... Again. Roy Buchanan would of loved your work.
I just wanted to pass on a note about the set of baby 71's I received from you. Finally got them installed about a week ago and took the guitar to a gig Saturday to give them a bit of a workout. I'm blown away. I've never heard a pickup sound so clear. I can't make this thing have a bad sound. Really impressed with your work. Can't wait to order a set of single coils for my strat from you. Hopefully soon.
Finally got it back from the shop. Sounds incredible. Did a coil tap on both of them. Very impressed. Totally transformed a generic Tele reissue into an amazing sounding guitar.
Couldn't be happier with them! Thanks so much!
Could you put this in your testimonials if you'd be so kind.
This pickup mod is UNBELIEVABLE!
I was hoping they would be better, but i never expected by this much!!!
You have managed to turn a set of rather lifeless, dull, brittle, quiet and muddy WRRi's into loud, full, punchy, articulate and clear MONSTERS!!!!!
When i plugged in to my amp, the guitar was about so much louder than it was previously. it was rather startling to say the least. but they are super clear and far more balanced in output than before (neck PU was really overpowering). and the fullness and definition are on par with any other guitar I've played. ever.
Cannot recommend these enough!
Hi. I got the classic 72 pickups and installed them. The telecaster sounds awesome now! It really has a much wider sound range and the individual strings are very clear.
I'm currently recording an album and you wide range buckers and wide range Jazzmasters are going to be all over the album.
Hi. I got the classic 72 pickups and installed them. The telecaster sounds awesome now! It really has a much wider sound range and the individual strings are very clear.
My guitar tech put them in and I am extremely happy. Its like having a new guitar. The sound is beautifully balanced with an amazing natural clarity. They were coil split and I also love the single coil sounds, especially with both pups. It is really a very mature guitar sound.
Thank you so much.
Just put the pickups in my tele...what an improvement!! awesome!!
Pickups sound awesome ! I love the guitar now.
You're an amazing man to offer to help a man in need of the rock. Actually, I just got back my '72 Telecaster Deluxe with your rebuilt WRHB's and it's phenomenal
Mate, the pickup is awesome! I am very pleased. Many thanks, great doing business.
I’m gigging a lot with my tele deluxe with your wide range pups. Sounds great
My Creamery pickups arrived earlier this week and I didn't waste anytime getting them installed in the Fender I told you about. I put them through a rehearsal on Wednesday night and was extremely happy with the tone and versatility. The wide range pickup is amazing!
.. I got the pickups fitted today.
... and I plugged it in.
Absolutely Fan-Bloody-Tastic! I'm over the moon with them. Only downside is my other guitar won't get a look in for a while!
I just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your work on the custom wide range humbucker you made for me. My luthier was also raving about the tone of the pickup. As I mentioned to you, I installed a dual variable coil splitting option, and the various tones available to me make my guitar a joy to play. I couldn't be happier. Thank very much!
I got the pick up and put it on the guitar. It sounds great; it has a very strong character; I think the pick up gives back all that the guitar offers! It's a full sound, that fits both clean and overdriven parts. You did a very good job!
Had a couple of Wide-Range humbuckers from you for a Tele Deluxe project a while back, brilliant pickups - had no idea how muddy and flat the Fender stock pickups were til I heard yours. Keep up the good work!
Hi Jaime, you made me some tele pickups a couple of years back - wide range and a single. A few albums and many tours on they are the best pickups I've ever had.
They sound great!
I own a set of your Baby '71 wide range Humbuckers and am extremely happy. Sweetest sounding pickups on earth.
I just got my guitar back with your WR pups (JM style) and love it!!!!
Very good!
Hi, Jaime,
I just wanted to let you know that the guitar is finished and sounds absolutely perfect! We can't thank you enough for your excellent customer service, patience, and expertise.
You made a sixteen-year-old kid in America very happy!
Thanks again
Hi Jamie, I have finally complete my telecaster deluxe project. Your Wide Range pickups are great :-)
Thank you for great pickups.
Hi Jaime,
The pickups are installed and I have my guitar back. My first impression is that they sound exactly how I wanted. They sound like big single coils on my Grosh Retro Classic with 0.12/0.52 strings set up for slide exclusively.
This guitar has a wonderfull resonance and natural sustain that is perfectly translated through the pickups.
Hi Jamie.
Could you put this in your testimonials if you'd be so kind.
This pickup mod is UNBELIEVABLE.
I was hoping they would be better, but i never expected by this much!!!
You have managed to turn a set of rather lifeless, dull, brittle, quiet and muddy WRRi's into loud, full, punchy, articulate and clear MONSTERS!!!!! Thank you Jaime
Hi Jaime,
I have just installed you wide range humbuckers into a Jazzmaster for a customer. He found the Fender pickups to have too much top-end bight and was looking for a different sound.
Although I have come across your website before this was the first opportunity I have had to install your pickups. I must say that I like these pickups very much. They have a lot of punch and work really well for someone who plays a lot of rhythm and is looking for a sound that cuts through the mix. More P90 than classic humbucker. Hit the strings hard and the pickups respond well and maintain their clarity. Add some gain on the amp and pickups produce a nice gritty, aggressive sound.
Best wishes.
Hey Jaime,
You just made my day today. I have put the pickups in my guitar and they just sound marvelous ! I used to have a '74 telecaster thinline, these pickups sound just as good as the originals, if not better !
Just what i was looking for ! Thank you so much for that, great job !
Hi Jaime,
Just wanted to drop you email to thank you for my pick ups.
They sound great! Im extremely pleased with how much they have improved the sound of my Jazzmaster. My Luthier who installed them for me was also extremely impressed with them.
I shall be recommending you to anyone I meet in the need of new pickups. Thanks again.
Hi Jaime
I finally git the pickup all wired up (my wife went into labour on Thursday so my little girl rearranged my priorities).
It sounds absolutely amazing thanks mate, I always thought my tele sounded like a half assed Les Paul, but now that neck pickup gives it a voice of its own. Problem is it makes the bridge pickup sound lazy by comparison. I have no doubt I will be asking you for a replacement bridge before the end of the year.
Just wanted to let ya know i have it all wired up and sounds great!
Just need to tweak the pickup heights and it will be perfect!
Thanks again for all your help!
Just a quick message to say how much I like the pickups for the Thinline. It’s taken me some time to test them because the luthier I use couldn’t fit them (his wife was having a baby). However, now I’ve had time to test them out at gigs and they really are a vast improvement on the originals. I get a much sharper sound, better sustain and greater tonal possibilities. So congratulations on a great product. By the way, I never got a refund for the postage - although don’t worry if it’s too much hassle. Maybe I could have a discount if I buy something else from you.
Very best wishes and keep up the good work
The pickups are in and they sound amazing. Lots more clarity than the originals from the late 80's in my 72 reissue thinline tele
THE PICKUP SOUNDS AMAAAAAAAAAZING! More than i could ever hope for! You sir are the most epic pickup builder on the planet! I will most definitely rave about your pups to all of my friends(one of them is already going to buy the Baby 71 on his payday, after trying mine! ) and il certainly buy from Creamery again in the future! 10 points out of 5 :D !!
When i get more time il post a youtube review to spread the love for the amazing Baby 71!
Have an amazing day!
Hi Jaime.
Many many thanks the pickups are fabulous. Really dynamic punchy humbucker sound and feel but with a lovely Fender flavour. I've put them into a Hagstrom Super Swede reissue (les paul type body strat scale neck) so it will be an interesting contrast to my '65 Fender Duo Sonic 2.
I will pass the word on about The Creamery and may well be back myself when money allows
I put in the pickup yesterday. it's sounds amazing! we tested my guitar with creamery pickup and compared it with a original seventies deluxe wide range. the sound was so close, maybe a little better:)
Thank you very much.
How’s it going? Its Stephen Allan here. Im the guy with the white road worn tele who you made the pickups for. Just to say i have now pretty much disowned my Duesenberg and Gibson and cant get my hands off the Tele.
My Band has started doing some recording and im running everything just now through Garage band, and all im using is my tele running into a fulltone OCD , into my Handwired AC30 into a shure mic and straight into garage band and i cannot express how impressed i am with the sound and quality. Just blown away man, officially my new favorite guitar.
Hope your keeping busy and getting plenty of trade. Thanks again. Thanks
The pups You have sent me are simply amazing!
It's not only me who's stating this ,but anyone who just played my own built tele I 've used them in.
Unfortunatelly my English command is not good enough to express the real satisfaction offered by your work's result
Thank You Jamie
Got this soldered in this afternoon. Sounds superb!
You'll be pleased to know it balances much better with the bridge and is far less muddy than the Seymour Duncan that was in it. It was an SD custom shop signed by the man himself as well.
Glad I stuck local.
Thanks
The Wide Range Humbucker you overhauled for me sounded great. My customer was over the moon with it, and I thought it was one of the best sounding pickups I have ever heard.
Thanks for your excellent work, hope to deal with you again soon.
They sound great though with excellent clarity and definition - I can't imagine a better humbucker for a telecaster, I also wired them up with serial/parallel/split switches and am pleased with the results.
Regards
Only had a couple of hours to try it but for me has been enough. Really love those Baby71. They have made the miracle of changing a good guitar into something superb!. The old SG was only good for playing unplugged, is in that case when you know a guitar worths the pity or not, or full gain Rock. The factory pickups were only good for Hard Rock!
Now the guitar is wide open. I can (try to) play rockabilly, blues rock and heavy without compromise, now is my fault not the instrument. You can feel and hear every string, I can hit it even harder and it gives you what you give! Dynamics are incredible, I was supposed to be a hard strummer but now I realise I can go even harder.
I am happy with the pickups, happy as a child jumping in a pond.
Dear Jaime,
I've finally installed these in a PRS. I'm nothing short of astounded -- I've got all kinds of guitars and over 50 replacement pickups, and I consider myself a very jaded enthusiast. But I've yet to her anything that sounds like these Baby '71s. Clear, bright, tremendous definition, yet really sweet when soloing. String separation when strumming overdriven chords is the best I've heard. I'm glad I took a chance on the Creamery.
Pickups are in, they sound terrific.
Hi Jaime,
I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the pickups. The sound is exactly what I was after. The Baby 71 is all the best bits of a humbucker mashed with all the best bits of a single coil. Such clarity and enough power at the same time. The bridge pickup is cutting and nasty (in a good way) without the shrillness that teles can suffer from. Together they make a great clean rhythm tone. I love them and will definitely come to you next time I'm doing a build.
Next Sunday I'm playing at a festival in Portugal. If I get any good pics where you can make out the logo I'll send you them.
All the best
I got them on Tuesday and got them fitted the same day and they sound great!
I have have been using guitars with your pickups at Festival gigs here in Canada over the last few weeks and they sound great and I really do prefer them over the *(other brand name versions)* … our front of house guy also likes them more too. He thinks they cut through the mix better and have more of the Tele twang.
Hi Jamie,
Just a quick note that I received the pick ups and had them installed, they are excellent, thank you. Very impressed with the coil split, very little volume degradation when switched, thanks again.
Hi, Jaime,
Just letting you know that I've had the pickups in a couple of weeks now, and am really impressed with the sound - I have quite a high gain amp, and where the original bridge pickup sounded a little drowned out the overwound Sonic '60 sounds just like a Tele should, but with a much thicker sound, and exactly the same twang and clarity as before.
The Wide-Range neck pickup is just infinitely better than the original all the way from the bottom to the top, and I'm shocked at how well the pickups mix, especially in the mids. Thanks a lot
Its amazing! Never been this happy with a bridge tone on a guitar so its all good. Really appreciate your efforts though and I'm telling everyone i know about your pickups. You're a genius.
Thanks again
I have put the pickups you made me to good use already. I have to say they might very well be the best pickups I've played and the aesthetics are great as well.
They sound incredible - the wide range is absolutely divine - in fact I prefer it to the original wide range pickup sin my 1974 Thinline - I can't stop playing it - my fingers hurt!
Hi Jaime,
I'm writing this mail because it's been a while since I installed your WRHBs on my Squier Jazzy and in this month I've been able to test them in lots of different situations. To put it simply, they're amazing! Really warm but with great note definition and clarity..They suit perfectly everything I play, from soft clean jazz to psychedelic walls of fuzz, in which they get me the best controlled feedback ever! Just to give you a reference, I use either a Mesa Boogie Mark III (mostly in the clean channel) or a '64 Ampeg Reverberocket II with lots of pedals. These pups really love fuzz, especially the BAT Pharaoh!
Best wishes,
Hey - I finally got my guitar back today with the pickups installed. I've just lost five hours of my life with the guitar plugged straight in to my silverface champ. This sounds incredible! Thanks so much! I can't wait to get into my rehearsal room and run the guitar through my twin tomorrow. Seriously happy. Thanks again.
I wanted to let you know that your option 3 mod on my Fender WRHBs sound great! I re-installed them on my '72 Telecaster Deluxe MIM RI with 1 meg pots and I couldn't be happier. As a point of comparison I also have a pair of Lollar Regals with 1 meg pots installed in another Deluxe. While the Regals sound good in their own right, they are more of a humbucker-type pickup. Your mod on my Fender WRHBs on the other hand really nails that 70's single coil/humbucker hybrid tone that made the original Seth Lover's special!
Anyway, wanted to share my thoughts with you. I will definitely be sending you more of my Fender WRHBs RIs for modding!
I am BLOWN AWAY by the sound of the pickups!!!! No longer are they the 'life-less' mongrels that Fender produces for their re-issues. The dynamics that are now available are amazing ! The individual note separation is truly astounding. I'm mainly a 'clean' player, so these improvements are extremely important to my style. From the first notes out of the amp, I knew that these pickups had answered my prayers for a 'true recreation' of the original Seth Lover designed wide-range humbuckers. I owned a real 72 Tele equipped with dual humbuckers so I can say with confidence that these pickups sound just as good as the originals. I've always told people how GREAT that old Tele sounded. They seemed to doubt that those old Tele's could ever sound good. I can now graphically illustrate just how good they sounded because you have been able to re-create that tone. I have a feeling that you will be getting more business from this side of the pond as a result of this demonstration.
Sounds awesome. Really jangley, almost like Johnny Marr. Love it mate
I got my guitar on Monday and everything went like a charm.
After my guitar luthier had Your pickups installed, he sent an SMS to me –right after first chord that he tried.
Here’s a quote from his message ;) ”These pickups are absolutely fantastic! I must have to get me a pair if these!”
So thanks for Your help, Your products and customer service are in a class of it’s own. I’m sure I’ll get back to You on upcoming guitar projects.
Installed the pickups a week ago and did a few recordings and a couple of gigs.
All I can say is that they are awesome. The sound is incredible, easy to find the sweet spot and they match perfectly.
The bridge pickup has "body" and clarity at the same time and the "wide range" neck is... what can I say ? Perfect as a humbucker AND as a single coil. Actually it's the best single coil sound I've heard in a Tele neck !
All in all you 've done a great job Jamie. Thanks so much.
That pickup you wound me sounds amazing couldnt have worked out better thanks for making four leads i put a push pull coil cut so I can still get tele bridge single sound.
I am very impressed with the sounds I'm getting.
Through the Marshall JCM800 I'm getting a really crunchy and snarly tone, it's just what I was looking for. The wide range pickup should sound quite unlike anything else and these '71 classics do just that. It's a great rock tone. Just like Graham Coxon was getting when playing his '72 Deluxe Tele with Blur during the 2012 reunion shows.
Through the Fender Twin I was surprised at the volume of the neck pickup to start with, I had to lower it a bit to balance the volume between pickups, it's much punchier than the stock Fender. The tone is a real improvement over the stock Fender reissue wide range with what feels like a blanket having been removed from the tone. It's loud and clear like a really fat single coil. On the bridge pickup I am getting some tones that remind me of Stevie Ray Vaughan's fat tone on Lenny when he switches to the bridge pickup.
It's funny but the taper and feel of both the volume and tone controls when rolled back has changed and is much more useful, rolling back just a little makes a noticeable difference.
I have installed the pickups, they sound really great. This is exactly what I wanted and I really have a new guitar now. I can now use more settings on my guitar and it sounds really good on my AC30.
They sound sweet thanks Jamie, very happy...can hear everything with a lot more clarity without being to bright, no more mud. They match up well and is much nicer to play
Hi Jaime, Just a quick one to say thanks for the pickups, they arrived couple of weeks back and I've only just found the time to install them. The bridge pickup is now every bit as good as the other Tele bridge you made me and the Wide Range humbucker is simply amazing, I can't praise it enough. Both pickups now reside in what is easily my favourite guitar! All the best
The pickup is here. Great sound, as I supposed; Now my Thinline Telecaster really sings. Thanks
The humbucker is a vast improvement on the stock one, it has clarity and attack without being too harsh, and when split gives a fantastic Tele bridge pick up tone.
The P90 mixes well with the humbucker, and has that great smooth P90 sound. Altogether I'm damn happy with them.
Got my JAZZMASTER setup, if there is smth better than your Wide Range for JM, I really want to know!
Installed the Widerange for Jazzmaster yesterday in my Elvis Costello signature model. Mighty mighty Pickups! (now I can use bridge and middle position too
Hi J! (am i the only one who thinks of men in black at this point? ;)) the pickup has arrived a week ago and i already soldered it in my guitar. All i can say is "wow"! This pup is simply amazing! Such a good string definition and balanced sound, i get the feeling that the sound just jumps off the strings! And it has the punch and attack i was looking for and it sounds like a tele with a nice percussive twang! I'm very glad that i got in contact with you and just wanted to give you a short feedback of your nice work with these pickups! I'm pretty sure that i will get in contact with you again!
Hi Jaime just to let You know that the pick up sounds unbelievable It has been worth It to wait for such a extremely good pick up the guitar has done such a change that has well pass my best expectations.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH
It has been the first but It won't be the last!
I got the wide rangers into my jazzmaster and the alt 88s into my jag..... WOW! the jazzmaster sound is much more muscular,a solid resonant bottom and mids with a really creamy chime to the highs, absolutely no icepickiness.. i havent adjusted the pole pieces and cant see why i would.open chords sound like im playing into a unison effect.its the Malkmus Pavement sound.love it!the alt 88s make my jag sound like i would have expected a fender jaguar to sound ,warm, twangy, wet, glassy, chimey .before i swapped the pickups in my guitars there wasnt to much of a tonal difference between them other than their respective outputs.now they both have very distinct tonal characteristics.cant wait to get the broadcasters.have a good one
Finally got the pickups installed etc – they sound great! Nice and big and open, just as I’d hoped!
Thanks
Played then them most of yesterday, they sound absolutely wonderful, and through all the valve amps in the house!
Thanks for doing such an amazing job once more!
It's a shame I'm running out of guitars to send you!
Yesterday, I replaced my tele's neck PU with your Baby '71. My tele has a standard sized humbucker in its neck position. I usually play jazz with the guitar (refer to the attachment).
Amazing sound! Its clean tone is ideal for me - warm and crisp tone without any frippery.
The top end is punchy but not harsh, and the bottom is tight but open like a single coil.
I really like this PU, so I will be looking for strings best fitted for it.
Thank you for producing such a great PU.
Thanks!
Hi Jaime,
I bought your pick up, trusting what I've heard on the web. Do you want know what I say? I am very happy your wide range are beautiful, great sustain. They are fat, well-defined, full of harmonics. These pick up are just the way I wanted, telecaster sound but much, much bigger ,fantastic !! I am very happy to have them bought and lucky to have found you on the web. I believe that in my area (Perugia-Italy) nobody knows your pick up. I have attached my fender thinline to my mesa boogie f50 (very aggressive), well coupled ,fantastic. I can't think how it could be the sound with a TwinReverb.
Jaime thanks, good work, it is clear that I will make a lot of publicity.
Hi Again<,/p>
I've finally got all the pieces for the guitar I was building around your pickups. I am really happy with the range of sounds I can get from your pickups, real vintage twang on the bridge with a whole range from the neck.
Had my first gig with it last night - it sounded awesome! HUGE improvement in tone and clarity etc and was noticed by everyone. Really happy with the product and service Jaime!
Wow, what a great pickup! It's just what I was looking for. A marvellous sounding pickup. Well done. Now my '72 Custom's neck pickup sounds clear and twangy, with tight bottom. I believe that you got the original's sound excactly right :-)
The Creamery Wide Range Humbucking Pick-ups are really amazing. I've played for a long time, have owned a vast number of guitars with single coils and humbuckers, but these are something special, indeed. They're very dynamic, you can make them go from a whisper to a roar just by the touch of your fingers. The sound is clear and bright, but with a solid bottom, never thin or spiky. I've put them in my Japanese thinline copy and they do make the instrument come alive in a very special way. Very good if you don't want to have to chose between mellowness and twang - here you have them both!
What to say... I am really impressed by the sound definition of these PUs. The other Wide Range that I tested before (re-issue ones) were muddy, no precise string definition and the twang of my tele was gone. This is one is trully amazing, clean, soft and subtile. Your telecatser is suddenly beathing ! About the bridge PU, with clean sound it's litterally smashing your face away ! Sounds powerfull and so precise, ready to roar ! Never heard such PUs combination before and really happy to play them today. Thanks so much Jaime for your beautiful work and patience.
It really is exactly what I was lookong for. All the twang and single note clarity my telecaster is supposed to have, but so much tighter when overdriven, like a humbucker is meant to be but with the added detail I would get from from my single coil. Thanks!
There is a real difference between these and the reissues - these are brighter/sharper and more tele like. The others were quite dark in comparison. I played it next to my single coil tele and it is now much more useable - it used to be like playing a cheap les paul at times!. Having scrutinised it all I am delighted with the sound"
I've received the PUs yesterday and put them back in the guitar. I'm very very happy! With the CTS pots and PIO caps, the sound is great! The guitar now has that nice vintage, warm tone, no comparison with the original (crappy) reissue PUs. Thank you for your good job.
They sound really good; open, punchy and very dynamic - I have to get used to all those nuances! It's like going from automatic gear to stick shift ... Played the first concert with them this saturday. It was an outdoor gig with no soundcheck, so I didn't get a chance to change the gain structure in my setup. It sounded great, and I guess it'll be even better when I some time to dial everything in.
Its on my Telecaster Deluxe. Works awesome. Sounds great!
I cannot recommend your pickups enough Jaime ! They are everything you describe them as and more. Great Pickups...great service ! I look forward to taking the tele with me on tour in the summer with the blues festivals and club dates we have lined up ! Thanks again for giving me the tone I have dreamed of !
