Custom Bass Pickups
Custom, Handwound, Replacement Bass Pickups
Initially concentrating on the classic Precision & Jazz Bass styles, I'm slowly adding alternative Bass pickup sets as I finalise the designs - featuring Bass VI, Mustang, Tele versions with new ones for Music Man, Gibson and others coming soon.
All Bass pickups are custom handwound (scatterwound) for a richer, more harmonic voice, here in my workshop here in Manchester.

Classic Precision P-Bass Pickups
Custom '14 "Solo" P-Bass
Magnets Flat Pole Alnico 5 Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Vintage Cloth Magnets Custom Made Alnico 5 Rods Output 11.4k Solo '14 Precision Bass Pickup
Punchier, P-Bass for lead line playing
Based on the need for a P-Bass pickup design that could cut through the mix, with a powerful, rich sound for solo playing, lead-lines & hooks.
Great clarity & string definition with a sharp, rich attack and tighter bottom-end to really cut through without overpowering the rest of the band. I designed this after a number of band requests, using taller stronger custom made Alnico 5 rod magnets and offset, overwound coils, geometrically different to a standard P-Bass to really cut through the mix.
Wax potted, vintage cloth covered wire, a great set of split-coil replacement P-Bass Pickups for those who want the bass to take the lead.

Based on the flat-pole design introduced soon after the switch to the split-coil design pickup, my custom, handwound Classic '58 replacement P-Bass Pickup is wound to a RW/RP vintage output with 42AWG plain enamel wire for that classic humbucking, split-coil sound.
Great clarity & string definition with a slightly warmer attack and solid bottom-end due to the slightly higher output than my Classic '65.

Replacement Musicmaster / Bronco Bass Pickup
Blade / 4 Pole Musicmaster / Bronco Bass
Magnets Custom Alnico 2 or 5 Blade or Alnico Rods Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Vintage Cloth Bridge Output 8k Creamery Replacement Musicmaster / Bronco Bass Pickup
Rich, defined, balanced Bass Single Coil sound
Rather than use the standard Strat style pickup for your Musicmaster or Bronco bass, I designed this custom, replacement, either with a single Alnico blade or individual rod magnets for even string balance, and rounder, fatter and more muscular sound. The Blade version has a tighter focus so better for cutting through the mix whereas the 4 x Alnico rod version gives a slightly richer, more open sound.
Great clarity & string definition for a fatter, fuller single coil bass sound.
You can also choose an Alnico 2 version for a slightly warmer, slightly rounder sound.
Fibre flatwork, wax potted, vintage cloth covered wire and available in black or white closed covers or black or aged white protective string wrapping.

Custom Design Bass VI Pickups
Replacement Bass VI Jaguar Set - Solo
Magnets Alnico 5 & Custom Options Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Vintage Cloth Bridge Output 8.4k Middle Output 7.8k Neck Output 7.5k Jaguar Bass VI solo & lead line player pickups
Fatter, fuller sounds but not straying too far into the Mid-Range
I designed these after requests for Jag Bass VI pickups who play solos & lead lines, wanting a fatter, fuller sound whilst keeping it from straying too far into the Mid-Range - but held off pushing them live until they went through solid testing - a higher output than standard, calibrated & balanced pickup set that gave great attack whilst still keeping clarity, definition and without losing the characteristics needed for bass playing, especially for those who play lead lines on the higher strings.
Tight Bass, Defined Lead - More Punch, More Attack
I tried a number of different methods before signing off the final designs, using my own Bass VI as a test guitar, finally deciding on using custom made taller & stronger Alnico 5 magnets with different geometry to the coil than a standard Jaguar pickup to balance great low-end with clear, defined lead line sounds for the higher strings
The replacement Jaguar Bass VI pickups are scatterwound here in my workshop before being wax potted for a specific time in a combination of paraffin & beeswax.
Custom Versions
Although I chose Alnico 5 magnets for my standard replacement Bass VI set I've discussed variations with a good few Bass VI players and do make purely custom versions. If you'd like to chat about a custom designed set with different magnet choices, just get in touch. Also, if you'd like to buy them as a single bridge, middle or neck, just drop me an email and we can work on the best design for you to balance well with your existing setup.
Available in black, white or aged white covers and with or without the ferrous chrome-plated metal claws attached and wax potted to stop microphonic feedback. The Jaguar Bass VI middle pickup can be reverse wound, reverse polarity RW/RP to create a hum canceling effect in th emiddle position. Comes with Vintage style cloth covered lead wires.
Custom Design Bass VI Pickups
Replacement Bass VI Jaguar Set - Mid-Range
Magnets Alnico 5 & Custom Options Coil Wire 43AWG Lead Wire Vintage Cloth Bridge Output 11.6k Middle Output 10.4k Neck Output 9.5k Fatter, Fuller Jaguar Bass VI pickups
Designed specifically for the needs of the Jag Bass VI - both in the Low End and Mid-Range
I designed these after many requests for Jag Bass VI pickups that had a fatter, fuller, more mid-range sound but held off pushing them live until they went through solid testing - a higher output, calibrated & balanced pickup set that gave great attack whilst still keeping clarity, definition and just more in the Mids & Bass frequencies.
More Bass, More Mid Range
I tried a number of different methods before signing off the final designs, using my own Bass VI as a test guitar, finally deciding on using thinner 43awg coil wire and custom made taller & stronger Alnico 5 magnets with different geometry to the coil than a standard Jaguar pickup to balance great low-end with clear, defined mids whilst still holding onto some of the higher frequencies.
The replacement Jaguar Bass VI pickups are scatterwound here in my workshop before being wax potted for a specific time in a combination of paraffin & beeswax.

Custom Design Bass VI Pickups
Sonic '60 for Bass VI
Magnets Alnico 2 or 5 Coil Wire 42AWG Lead Wire Vintage Cloth Bridge Output 7.2k Middle Output 6.6k Neck Output 6.3k Richer, Sweeter Jaguar Bass VI pickups
Based on the old classic Burns Tri-Sonic® design
With handwound coils pressed around the custom magnets and wax potted in a combination of paraffin & beeswax, my new Creamery Sonic '60 Jaguar replacement pickups give that richer, musical sound synonimous with the old classic Burns Tri-Sonic® design.
Geometry dictates they won't sound identical to the old 60s classics as the pickups are smaller (standard Jaguar size) and I use my custom made thinner magnets inside the pressed coil, but they're designed & tested to be richer, sweeter and more rounded than standard Jag pickups.
Designed to fit a standard Jaguar guitar with no modifications needed
Unlike the larger originals, my Sonic '60 Jag pickups have been designed to fit a standard scratchplate & body cavity but with outputs of 7.2k & 6.3k respectively - they've been designed to balance the old vintage sounds with a modern spin for a richer, warmer, more rounded, musical sound than a standard Jaguar pickup set.
With a choice of magnets, you can choose to have a warmer or brighter version. Alnico 2 'holds' the strings a little less, allowing them to vibrate a little more freely giving a perceived slightly warmer, more resonant sound.
Ceramic, being stronger, holds the strings a little more giving a slightly more attacking, slightly brighter, more focussed, less richer sound.
Alnico 5 offers a slightly brighter, more attacking characteristic than Alnico 2 but a little more rounded than the ceramic option.
True Chrome Plated Jag Covers
Wanting these pickups to be something special I've had custom chrome plated Jag covers manufactured. These aren't plastic covers, they're very thin brass that I've had chrome plated. I've also designed them with the Tri-Sonic® style oversize holes and more rounded/rolled edge covers.
They do look good, especially with the classic Jaguar chrome control plates.

Tele / Starcaster Bass Pickups
Classic '75 WRHB Bass
Magnets Individual Threaded Alnico 2, Alnico 5 or CuNiFe Coil Wire 42AWG or 43AWG Lead Wire Simple Three-Way or Modern 4-Way Bridge Output 11.6k or 24k Neck Output 10.3k or 21k The Classic Tele Bass / Starcaster Bass Fender Wide Range Humbucker
A true replacement for the modern Wide Range / Starcaster Bass reissue pickups
Classic Tele / Starcaster Bass sounds. Individual threaded pole magnets allow you to dial in each string.
I spent a good while working on these trying to get the design just right, balancing the original with a modern voice - eventually coming up with two options, a brighter, crisper, punchier version and one with more of the original fat, dark mid-range thump. Another direct drop-in replacement for the modern Starcaster Bass / Tele Bass Wide Range Humbucker reissues.
Based on the classic '70s Fender Bass Design, eight individual threaded rod magnets ( four hidden ) help give a great single coil option when split.
Indvidual Threaded Alnico or original Spec CuNiFe Magnets
Choose from stronger, brighter, more attacking sounding Alnico 5 - Slightly warmer, sweeter sounding Alnico 2 or my custom manufactured CuNiFe Magnets which are very similar to Alnico 2 but more vintage correct to the original WRHB design. CuNiFe does carry a higher price as they just cost more for me to have them custom manufactured but after being asked on a weekly basis for the past number of years, I finally gave in and had them manufactured.
PLEASE NOTE: These pickups are a direct drop-in replacement to fit the modern Tele Bass / Starcaster Bass Wide Range Humbuckers and the output can also be custom to your requirements.
Available in chrome covers
